Capcom has made a big impact in the industry with its Resident Evil remakes in recent years. This year’s Resident Evil 4 was even nominated for Game of the Year at the Game Awards. The success of the horror-action genre opens the door for the development of new remakes.
What will be the next Resident Evil game?
Resident Evil 4 Remake director Yasuhiro Anpo made important statements at the PlayStation State of Play event in Japan. Accordingly, he stated that the company is working on new projects and will continue to develop the Resident Evil series.
Capcom stated that it wants to bring classic survival-horror games to modern platforms. The Japanese company first achieved remarkable success with Resident Evil 2 and 3. Director Anpo said that with these projects, they were able to bring the legendary games of the 90s to new generations.
The director of RE 4 has not revealed which game is next. However, there are some possible candidates among the leaks so far. Resident Evil: Code Veronica is thought to be the next game in development. It will serve as an important story bridge between RE3 and RE5.
Remastered in 2002 for the GameCube, the first Resident Evil has also yet to be remastered. It is thought that this game could be redeveloped using the RE Engine that powered RE 2 and 3. A modernized re-release of the first game could appeal to new and old players alike.
Other potential options include Resident Evil 0, 5 and 6. However, redeveloping these games would require a major overhaul of their story and design.
